[ Summary ] Precise evaluation of a risk and appropriate treatment is very important in the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Vascular calcification (VC) is known as a crucial risk factor for CVD and mortality. Nowadays, many methods for evaluation of VC are available. In addition to traditional examinations, such as chest x-rays, ultrasound and computed tomography, newly developed modalities, such as intravascular devices and procedures including positron emission tomography enable us to evaluate VC in more detail. Therefore, we have to comprehend the characteristics of these useful methods appropriately and accumulate clinical evidences using them. We should utilize these classical and modern approaches to evaluate VC and provide the best treatment for patients.
