[ Summary ] Mineral and bone disorders (MBD) commonly occur in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), subsequently leading to various clinical symptoms including bone pain and fractures. Lumbar compression fractures and proximal femoral fractures are factors affecting long term prognoses in the general population. This is also true in patients with CKD. The number of patients with CKD has increased with the number of elderly in our society. In relation to the above, developing prophylactic measures to combat bone fragility due to CKD-MBD remains an essential task to be addressed. We discuss bone lesion assessment in patients with CKD-MBD and drug selection for osteoporosis treatment.
