[ Summary ] Parathyroid diseases are common and the molecular signaling pathways that are involved in determining the differentiation of the parathyroid glands are being demonstrated in studies of patients with parathyroid gland diseases.
The parathyroid gland develops from the endodermal cells of the third and fourth pharyngeal pouches. Furthermore, cells derived from the neural crest of rhombomeres 6 and 7 of the hindbrain also contribute to the parathyroid gland anlage.
In this section, the discussion focuses mainly on the relationship between parathyroid diseases and Tbx1, Gcm2, and Gata3 transcription factors, which play an important role in parathyroid development.
