[ Summary ] The risk of bone fractures is higher in patients with CKD. Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) has been proposed to the term Renal Osteodystrophy (ROD). CKD-MBD is described as a systemic illness which is directly linked to mortality via vascular calcification, whereas ROD is a term limited to describing bone lesions. It is important to consider bone fragility in CKD patients due to the aging of the hemodialysis population in Japan. This review summarizes evaluations of bone lesions and anti-osteoporosis drugs for CKD.
