[ Summary ] Periodontitis remains highly prevalent world wide and can lead to the loss of the affected teeth. Thus, establishing a completely new treatment approach that enables the regeneration and rebuilding of periodontal tissue destroyed by periodontitis is an extremely important task. Our preclinical studies and clinical trials suggested that basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) might be efficacious in stimulating regeneration of periodontal tissue. It is also expected that stem-cell transplantation therapy can be another candidate. We are now investigating the safety and efficacy of transplantation of adipose tissue derived multi lineage progenitor cells(ADMPCs)for periodontal tissue regeneration.
