[ Summary ] |
Articular cartilage has poor regenerative capacity. Microfracture, osteochondral grafting, autologous chondrocyte transplantation, and allogeneic cartilage transplantation are strategies used to correct focal defects of articular cartilage. Each procedure has specific features and limitations in terms of the size of the defects that can be corrected, the regeneration capability with hyaline cartilage, and the number of patients who can be treated. Recently, induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cellderived chondrocytes have been investigated as a new treatment strategy. |
