[ Summary ] Ceramic-based bone graft substitutes, including hydroxyapatite (HA) or tri-calcium phosphate (TCP), have been utilized for bone repair and regenerastion. This section reviews various materials used as well as their features, discusses previous and recent studies on TCP, and introduces computer aided design/computer aided manufacture-based custom-made bone substitutes prepared using a three-dimensional molding technique and an ink-jet printer system. Finally, we discuss future perspectives on bone regeneration using artificial bones.
