[ Summary ] There are many reports suggesting the strong relationship between serum phosphate concentration and mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Also, in people with normal kidney function, a significant correlation between serum phosphate level and risk of cardiovascular disease was reported. These reports suggest that not only hyperphosphatemia but also load of phosphate are possibly harmful to health. Fibroblast growth factor 23, an indicator of phosphate load, is also reported to be related to mortality in CKD patients in many cohort studies. The procedure for mineral bone metabolism disorder is crucial for a better prognosis in these patients.
