[ Summary ] Recently, new iron-containing phosphate binders have become available. Iron-containing phosphate binders control serum phosphorus concentrations and reduce the need for ESAs and intravenous iron in patients receiving hemodialysis. However, they increase serum ferritin concentrations, so iron levels in patients treated with new iron-containing phosphate binders should be monitored regularly.
