[ Summary ] The primary effect of vitamin D is to control VDR-mediated transcriptional control of target genes. Recent advances in epigenetic research have implied that vitamin D-dependent transcriptional control is associated with epigenetic control. Chromatin reorganization through chromatin remodeling and histone modification is fundamental for transcriptional control as well as epigenetic control. In this review, possible co-regulation of transcriptional and epigenetic controls by VDRs are discussed.
