[ Summary ] Treatment with bisphosphonates is now a standard therapy for the management of osteoporosis. Significant efficacy of this modality in the prevention of vertebral and non‒vertebral fractures has been proven. Recognition of the anti‒resorptive potency of bisphosphonates has lead to the administration of newly discovered molecules, which may be given either orally or intravenously, in periods ranging from weekly to yearly administration. This review gives an overview of the efficacy as well as the clicical issues related to bisphosphonate administration.
