Chronic kidney disease (CKD) induces not only abnormal bone mineral metabolism but also vascular calcification, in particular arterial medial calcification. Vitamin K activates vitamin K dependent proteins, osteocalcin (OC) and matrix gla protein (MGP), which may employed to improve bone quality and prevent vascular calcification. Therefore, it is expected that vitamin K status in CKD would associate with its complications. In this review, current literature concerning vitamin K status in CKD is summarized. |
