[ Summary ] |
Because successful kidney transplantation normalizes abonormalities in serum calcium, phosphate, parathyroid hormone and 1,25(OH)2D3 levels, it is expected that renal osteodystrophy should improve. However, counter to expectations, renal allograft recipients often suffer from various bone diseases, such as persistent hyperparathyroidism, adyanamic bone disease, bone amyloidosis, etc. Immunosuppressive agents, such as steroids and calcineurin inhibitors, also lead to deterioration of bone skeltal in renal allograft recipients. In this chapter, the change of carryover bone disease after successful renal transplantation are extrapolated. |
