[ Summary ] Collagen cross-link formation in bone plays an important role in bone strength and the proper biological function of bone (Saito M, Osteoporos Int, Review, 2010). Levels of oxidative stress and tumor necrosis factor increase in patient with rheumatoid arthritis. These factors may result in impaired bone quality in terms of enzymatic and advanced glycation end products related cross-link formation.
