[ Summary ] It is well known that magnesium plays as important a role in the nervous system as does calcium. Although there has been a great deal of research on the blockade effect of magnesium on the NMDA receptor, the role of magnesium is still not well understood. Recent studies indicate the importance of magnesium in regard to recovery from trauma after brain injury, learning and memory improvement as well as nervous development. In this article, a method to evaluate the effects of magnesium on neural functions, which will help explain the role of magnesium in the nervous system is introduced.
