[ Summary ] |
Severe atheroscierosis / calcinosis is frequently observed in aging, diabetes mellitus and chronic dialysis patients. This leads to cardiovascular events. Recent progress in basic research has revealed certain similarities between bone calcification processes and calcification of vascular tissues which contribute to several cardiovascular diseases. These findings extend the link between bone remodeling and vascular calcification, opening avenues for novel therapeutic strategies. However, the current evidence is not conclusive and further research is necessary to confirm these actions in clinical settings. |
