[ Summary ] Guidelines for selective percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PElT) have been released in order to support its appropriate and safe application.
Recently, the 3rd edition of the 2006 guideline for selective direct injection therapy of the parathyroid was published. In this guideline, patients with one nodular hyperplasia are introduced as the most suitabte candidates for PElT.
This guideline, based on the 2006 guidelines for the management of secondary hyperparathyroidism, which was released from the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy (JSDT), describes more details related to the section of intervention in the JSDT guidelines. In addition, this guideline refers to direct vitamin D injections to the parathyroid, which is a method that has been spreading recently. Application and revisions of this guideline are mandatory depending on the current medical trend.
