[ Summary ] Use of sevelamer hydrochloride is advantageous in the management of secondary hyperparathyroidism by controlling hyperphosphatemia without increasing calcium load. Considering the frequent side effects such as constipation, combination therapies with calcium-containing phosphate binders and sevelamer are practical methods. With dialysate calcium levels of 2.5mEq/l, we must increase the dosage of vitamin D to prevent the exacerbation of secondary hyperparathyroidism. Sevelamer, does not alter the management of thr severe forms of secondary hyperparathyroidism, refractory to vitamin D.
