[ Summary ] The physiological significance of nuclear steroid hormone receptor function has been recently demonstrated. The nuclear receptors are ligand-induced transcription factors, and recruit a number of co-regulatory complexes for ligand-induced transactivation. Reflecting the significant actions of nuclear receptor ligands in skeletal tissues, the knockout mice deficient of nuclear receptors exhibit skeletal abnormalities, however, little is studied in chondrocyte differentiation in such mice.
