[ Summary ] Prevention and treatment for osteoporosis in rheumatic diseases should be performed as well as for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, because osteoporosis in rheumatic disease is strongly influenced by glucocorticoid. Active prevention and treatment are required because glucocorticoid severely decrease bone mineral density. Large-scale clinical studies with double-blind randomized protocols and meta-analysis have proven that the effectiveness of bisphosphonates as the prevention and therapeutic agent of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. In this article, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis is mainly discussed.
