Publish Date 2001/10

[ Summary ] Calcitonin was initially identified as a hypocalcemic factor and later turned out to be a neuropeptide as well. Calcitonin gene-related peptide, amylin and adrenomedullin are related peptides to calcitonin and reported to mediate diverse biological functions. Receptors for these peptides constitute a subfamily of G protein-coupled receptors and recently shown to obtain responsiveness to different ligands by interactions with receotor-activity modifying proteins.
