[ Summary ] Dialysis amyloidosis is a major complication of long term dialysis patients. Bone cysts have been observed frequently in dialysis patients who have been treated for over 15 years.
For prevention and treatment, High Flux dialyzers, on line-Hemodiafiltration, endtoxin free dialyzate and (beta2-microglobulin) adsorbent column are applied to regular dialysis therapy.
Subjective auricular symptoms and grasping power are improved by use of β2-m adsorbent therapy. The size of bone cysts in the femoral and humeral bones were compared over a 4 year period, on patients who have been treated or not treated with beta2-m absorbent therapy. After adsorbent column therapy, enlargement of cysts was suppresed. IL-1beta and factor D were supressed under combination therapy. The effect is related to the removal of beta2-m and immunomodulation.
