Title Dialysis related amyloidosis in Japan
Publish Date 2001/01

[ Summary ] Dialysis related amyloidosis is one of the serious complications of chronic dialysis therapy, and its incidence increases with the number of years on dialysis and the aging process. The frequency of operations for carpal tunnel syndrome also increases dramatically after more than ten years of dialysis treatment: 8.6% among patients more than 10 years on dialysis but less than 15 years: 27.5% among those thus treated for more than 15 years but less than 20: 50.0% among those on dialysis over 20 years but less than 25: and 67.8% among patients on dialysis therapy for over 25 years.
A decreased risk of aggravation is possible by treatment to raise KtV for beta2-microglobulin. In fact, the treatment using a dialysis membrane with high beta2-microglobulin removal ability can drive down the aggravation risk to 42.4%, and it can be decreased even further to a remarkably low level by hemodiafiltration(HDF) with on-line HDF or push/pull HDF and the like.
