[ Summary ] We investigated dialysis prescriptions based on age in patients undergoing hemodialysis at Nagasaki Kidney Hospital to determine optimal dialysis prescriptions for elderly patients. Hemodialysis time was shorter and the blood flow volume was reduced in elderly patients. However, the hemodialysis dose and removal rate of blood urea nitrogen were unaffected by age. The hemodialysis time and blood flow volume were determined in elderly patients, based on the pathological conditions in this patient population. Therefore, instead of a strictly uniform prescription, dialysis prescriptions for elderly patients should be based on a model of personalized medicine for improved quality of life.
