[ Summary ] High performance membrane (HPM) dialyzers (high removal performance, high biocompatibility) and HPM blood purification filters are devices commonly used in this country. The selection of a dialyzer or a blood purification filter should be determined by the patient's general condition. A dialyzer or a blood purification filter should be selected based on its efficiency in removing the solute that needs to be eliminated in a particular patient. A highly biocompatible membrane dialyzer or filter should be selected in patients with microinflammation. The use of a dialyzer or a blood purification filter with high protein permeability (a membrane with high albumin permeability) requires careful monitoring to avoid reduction in serum albumin concentrations in patients in whom such a membrane is used. All HPM dialyzers or HPM blood purification filters should necessarily use a dialysis fluid that fulfills the criteria of an "ultra pure dialysis fluid".
