[ Summary ] It is very important to set appropriate therapeutic targets and monitor parameters to provide an optimal dialysis prescription for each patient. These targets should be beneficial for patients closely associated with patients' quality of life, such as improved symptoms and nutritional status. Increasing the dialysis dose by institution of home hemodialysis or by increasing dialysis time is essential to avoid future complications in younger patients undergoing dialysis. Symptom reduction is the most important target in elderly patients undergoing dialysis to ensure a better quality of life. If increasing dialysis time and frequency is impossible, clinicians should intensify efforts to remove larger sized low-molecular weight proteins along with monitoring changes in patients' symptoms and nutritional status.
