[ Summary ] A guideline regarding hypertension in the general population has been published by the Japanese Society of Hypertension. The new guideline published in 2019 describes blood pressure management in patients undergoing dialysis. The guideline emphasizes the specific points and issues in controlling blood pressure in the population, and it also describes the difficulties in determining concrete target blood pressure values in patients undergoing dialysis. The problems in the management of hypertension among patients undergoing dialysis exist in the timing of blood pressure measurement, scarcity of evidence recommending the target blood pressure or classes of anti-hypertensive medications, heterogeneity in patients undergoing dialysis, and goals of hypertension treatment. Thus, further studies or evidence are required to answer these problems.
