[ Summary ] Although Clinical Practice Guideline for Dementia, which was updated in 2017, explains in detail the medical care for dementia in the general population, it hardly mentions dialysis patients. Differentiation of delirium due to uremia, disequilibrium syndrome, drugs, electrolyte disorders, etc. is of great importance in the diagnosis of dementia in dialysis patients. Anti-dementia drugs should not be routinely administered to dialysis patients, and the management of vascular and non-vascular risk factors is important in the prevention and management of dementia in these patients. It is considered that the development of legal environment for withdrawal from and withholding of dialysis is needed with an increase in the number of elderly dialysis patients in recent years. It is worth noting how the "Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy Clinical Guideline for Hemodialysis Initiation for Maintenance Hemodialysis" published in 2014 will be updated in the near future.
