[ Summary ] Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute and Chronic Heart Failure (JCS 2017/JHFS 2017) were published in 2018. There is no specific recommendation for hemodialysis patients except for the effectiveness of beta-blockers and renin-angiotensin system inhibitors. Screening for cardiovascular disease is recommended for all hemodialysis patients because hemodialysis is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and the mortality is high in hemodialysis patients with heart failure. Fluid overload is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular death. The setting of dry weight and the effect of shunt blood flow are problems specific to he-modialysis patients. The evaluation is difficult, especially in patients with cardiac dysfunction.
