[ Summary ] In 2012, the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) foundation published the KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline for Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). KDIGO established AKI diagnostic criteria and standardized treatment through various recommendations, including renal replacement therapy (RRT) and the prevention of AKI. As the guideline does not sufficiently cover the daily practice of AKI in Japan, the Japanese AKI Clinical Practice Guideline was published in 2016. Here, I will review the timing of initiation, modality, dialysis dose, and discontinuation of RRT for AKI, and will also discuss new research.
