[ Summary ] Home-based medical care is encouraged in Japan; therefore, the potential demand for home hemodialysis (HHD) is likely to be high. In fact, the number of patients undergoing HHD is significantly increasing in recent years. However, most patients prefer to undergo hemodialysis at clinical facilities. Despite our efforts to popularize HHD since 2006 at our hospital, only 1 or 2 patients chose to undergo HHD until the end of 2014. We performed an opinion survey among both, employees of our hospital and patients, to identify and analyze the reasons for this observation. Furthermore, we selected members from each department and established the HHD Promotional Team with an annual corporative objective of "Raising Awareness and Promoting Home Hemodialysis". Owing to the employees' collective efforts toward the promotion of this campaign, the number of patients undergoing HHD has increased significantly, and we anticipate introducing 25 patients to HHD in 2019.
