[ Summary ] It is well-known that the percentage of diabetic patients undergoing dialysis is high in Japan. Diabetes treatment is often necessary at the dialysis medical site. In recent years, although various oral diabetes medicines are available for use even in patients undergoing dialysis, many of these patients require insulin therapy. The target glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level is ≤ 7.0 % for diabetic patients with and without chronic kidney disease. However, it is unknown whether HbA1c is an accurate indicator of glycemic control in patients undergoing dialysis. Therefore, management of insulin requires caution, and the significance of insulin therapy in patients undergoing dialysis requires further evidence-based studies to draw definitive conclusions.
