[ Summary ] Diabetes is the most frequent primary disease associated with end-stage renal disease at 43.5 % and is a strong risk factor for physical frailty. Physical frailty is an age-related fragile state, characterized by physiological vulnerability to stress and is associated with an increased risk of adverse health outcomes. Frailty is highly prevalent in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Early identification of physical frailty and intervention are essential to prepare a comprehensive management plan for patients undergoing hemodialysis. Clinical guidelines have emphasized the importance of optimal management of physical frailty in patients undergoing hemodialysis. However, awareness and appropriate implementation of these is lacking in real-world clinical practice. Frailty is a treatable condition; therefore, it is important that health providers focus on the management of physical frailty in the routine clinical care of vulnerable patients undergoing hemodialysis.
