[ Summary ] The recommended energy intake prescribed for diabetic patients undergoing dialysis is 30-35 kcal/kg body weight (BW)/day and that for the control of blood glucose and body weight is 25-30 kcal/kgBW/day. The protein, salt, potassium, and phosphorus intake should be comparable with that in non-diabetic patients undergoing dialysis. However, the intake of these nutrients should be modified based on the quantity of dialysis, laboratory data including the blood glucose levels, physical examination findings, and the total dietary intake. It is important to monitor protein intake in elderly patients to prevent malnutrition and consequent sarcopenia and frailty. Thus, it is important to prepare an individualized nutrition program with regular monitoring of patients to ensure safe and effective management of this patient population.
