[ Summary ] Nursing and healthcare-associated pneumonia (NHCAP) is a new category of adult pneumonia that is being recognized in clinical settings. Patients undergoing hemodialysis can be categorized as NHCAP region. Data regarding pneumonia in patients undergoing hemodialysis are limited; therefore, further research is warranted in this context. The Japanese Respiratory Society guidelines for the management of pneumonia in adults 2017 recommend that the quality of life must be considered in patients with terminal stage NHCAP. In an aging population, it is important to consider the limitation of improvement in prognosis following treatment. Thus, it is necessar y to change principles of pneumonia management in the future to the prevention of pneumonia.
