[ Summary ] The risk of fragility fractures is known to be higher in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Administration of drugs used for the treatment of osteoporosis is known to reduce the risk of bone fractures in those diagnosed with this condition. Reportedly, the administration of such drugs used for the treatment of osteoporosis was shown to increase the bone mineral density in patients undergoing hemodialysis. However, the effectiveness and safety of drugs used to treat bone fractures and osteoporosis in patients undergoing hemodialysis have not been established. Sarcopenia and frailty are commonly observed in patients undergoing hemodialysis and are considered contributory factors to the occurrence of bone fractures that are commonly noted in this group of patients. Therefore, the management of sarcopenia and frailty is important to prevent falls and bone fractures in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
