[ Summary ] Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a home dialysis therapy in which the patient self-manages dialysis therapy including dialysis solution exchange. Dialysate exchanges using ultraviolet or thermally autoclaved sterilization equipment were developed for patients for whom manual exchanges are difficult. As the age of patients starting dialysis increases, exchange devices have evolved to meet the need for elderly-friendly PD therapy. Device exchange equipment has gained particular popularity in Japan, and the reduction effect of such devices in peritonitis in Japan should be examined. Since further increases in the number of elderly PD patients using support are expected in the future, we believe that future devices will be developed that will allow dialysate exchange as well as provide patient-friendly PD management.
