[ Summary ] Patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) need an access catheter for peritoneal dialysis (PD). For a successful PD, patients must have enough information on renal replacement therapy, including the optimal timing of PD; undergo PD catheter implantation with the optimal technique, which can avoid complications related to the surgery; and be provided support by medical staffs in learning the proper technique for performing PD by themselves. The best method for various techniques of PD catheter implantation and the best type of PD catheter have not been determined yet. Each center should select the most suitable method and catheter for patients with consideration of their individual situations.
