[ Summary ] Japanese CKD Stage 5D Patients (MBD-5D) is a multicenter, prospective observational study of hemodialysis patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of practice patterns on the management status of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD), and their respective impact on patient-level outcomes. The MBD-5D has contributed immensely to the body of evidence in this area, and the research findings have raised particular interest internationally. The MBD-5D database has also been utilized to test new hypotheses. In this article, we provide a brief overview of the design and key research fi ndings from the MBD-5D study.
