[ Summary ] Heart failure and sudden cardiac death are two major causes of death in Japanese dialysis patients. Needless to say, the most important points to reduce cardiac related death are to take steps to prevent cardiac diseases such as ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, and hypertensive heart disease. However, to minimize common factors for progression of cardiac remodeling secondary to cardiac dysfunction and/or to reduce frequency of triggers for onset of fatal arrhythmia, it is also essential to improve cardiac death related factors in dialysis patients.
