[ Summary ] Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is available in three forms for end-stage renal disease (ESRD). These are hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and kidney implantation. A certain patient who has experienced all forms of the RRT, including home hemodialysis treatment, for approximately 30 years described the differences between the general advantages of RRT as well as his feelings about treatments. The most important factor influencing the feelings of ESRD patients receiving dialysis therapies depends on how we maintain residual kidney functions over long periods. In conclusion, there is no major difference between the advantages of various forms of RRT that are normally believed and the feelings of the certain patient about RRT. However, it is obvious truth that he experiences "good well-being" when he changes from intermittent treatment to continuous one for ESRD treatment.
