[ Summary ] In Japan, the number of patients treated with online HDF therapy has increased to slightly less than 50,000 people. In terms of the treatment mode, the number of patients treated with predilution mode online HDF accounts for over 90 %. The quantity of substituted liquid is 40.1 L on average. The situation concerning online HDF therapy in Japan is greatly different from that in Europe where postdilution mode online HDF therapy is considered to be a mainstream form of treatment. Most clinical evidence concerning online HDF therapy relates to postdilution modes for online HDF therapy. It is important we expand clinical evidence concerning predilution modes for online HDF therapy. Basic research into therapeutic mechanism, in conjunction with clinical evidence relevant to predilution modes for online HDF, should be disseminated world wide.
