[ Summary ] Kidney transplantation (KT) has become an acceptable RRT for patients with ESKD. Recent grafting and patient survival are excellent, and the number of patients receiving KT is gradually increasing. Although most Japanese nephrologists are required to participate in KT, most of them rarely had the chance to study KT, and only the nephrologists working at KT centers can care for the patients. Currently, an effective way to change this situation is not available. The main role of nephrologists working at non-KT centers is to present the treatment options for RRT to ESKD patients. Their goal is to provide the option of pre-emptive kidney transplantation to pre-dialysis patients and refer these patients to KT centers. We are optimistic that more nephrologists will be interested in KT after the therapeutic options for ESKD patients are presented.
