[ Summary ] Recently, the number of patients undergoing kidney transplantation is annually increasing. In addition, the number of high-risk patients is increasing due to the progression of treatment. CVD is the major cause of death in kidney transplant and hemodialysis patients. Therefore, patients with CVD must be monitored before and after transplantation. As patients with ESRD, who are candidates for kidney transplantation, frequently have CVD, these patients must be screened for CVD. However, most of the current guidelines on perioperative CVD evaluation and management of patients undergoing noncardiac surgery do not take into account the specificity of patients with ESRD. Thus, the characteristics of these patients must be identified, and appropriate screening and CVD treatment must be performed. These strategies may improve patient prognosis.
