[ Summary ] Shared decision making with the patient is the most important aspect of a health practitioner's reponsibilities. During the initiation of dialysis therapy, we support patients in making treatment decisions not only for a cure but for their quality of life. Because of the nature of home treatment, medical staff should consider the burden on caregivers and support patients' decisions regarding their daily life, for example exit-site care. It is important to pay attention to patients' feelings during a change in therapy.
