[ Summary ] In assisting with patients' decision-making processes, it is first necessary to listen to their ideas on the disease and understand their living conditions. Based on this, it is necessary to confirm their level of understanding, their concerns regarding the stage of their disease, and the kinds of therapies that are available to them, while proceeding with sharing information on their wishes. In cases where they may have given up on one form of renal replacement therapy (RRT), or if they are inclined towards another therapy, it is better to take it into consideration in order to help them choose an optimal and biologically superior RRT.
