[ Summary ] In the case of dialysis patients requiring long-term nursing care, the patient is highly dependent on healthcare services, a characteristic not seen in the care for elderly patients in general, resulting in a significant burden on family caregivers. In the present report, we comment on various types of respite care aimed at alleviating the care burden on families of dialysis patients with long-term care needs. With increase in the age of dialysis patients, we believe that such respite care will acquire added signifi cance.
