[ Summary ] A number of Japanese medical institutions have been striving for acquisition of Joint Commission International (JCI) certification. In regard to infection management during dialysis therapy, the guidelines titled, "Recommendations for Preventing Transmission of Infections among Chronic Hemodialysis Patients" from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the "Guide to the Elimination of Infections in Hemodialysis" from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) are accepted worldwide. On the other hand, the "Guidelines for Standard Hemodialysis Procedures and Prevention of Infection in Maintenance Hemodialysis Facilities (4th edition)" are widely used in Japan. There are many problems with applying overseas guidelines directly, and excessive infection control makes compliance difficult. It is very important to make an original in-hospital infection control manual that is not only complied with but also agrees with the actual state of affairs within each facility.
