[ Summary ] Extraosseous calcification in CKD G5D patients is classified as metastatic calcification and dystrophic calcification. The former consists of tumoral calcinosis, articular/periarticular calcification, conjunctival calcification, and visceral calcification defined according to its distribution. Examples of visceral calcification include vascular calcification and nephrocalcinosis. Calciphylaxis is a fatal disease characterized by skin necrosis and caused by the selective calcification of the dermal arterioles in the presence of hypercalcemia. There has been a report of a rare case of pulmonary calciphylaxis due to alveolar capillary calcification that led to respiratory failure.
