[ Summary ] The new term, Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD) has been proposed to replace the term Renal Osteodystrophy (ROD). CKD-MBD describes a systemic illness that is directly linked to mortality via vascular calcification whereas ROD is limited to describing a bone lesion. In Japan, where population aging is expected to accelerate yearly, the concept of Frailty has been proposed for managing the age population. Recent research suggests that there is a close relationship between CKD-MBD and aging and frailty. Therefore, CKD-MBD is a common disease in an aging society and needs to be monitored.
